Years 7-13 Fridays 7:30pm-9pmOver the last few weeks, we (that is to say Chris Smith) have been very busy setting up a Minecraft server for the young people at St. Michael's. We are really excited at this new opportunity to connect with our young people in a safe digital environment where we can have fun together. The server has been set up for any of our young people in school years 7-13 who come to either Word, FXG, Teen Central or Club.
To join us on the server you/your young people will need to have Minecraft Java edition for PC. Unfortunately, the server is not compatible with the versions of Minecraft found on Xbox/PlayStation/mobile phone. Let me stress at this point, this is a completely optional activity. As is the aim for all our youth work at St Michael's, we want this to be a place where the young people feel wanted and where we can build each other up, so we have worked hard to ensure the server is a safe and secure online environment. We have language filters on the typed chat interfaces alongside a record log of all messages sent on the server to help protect all the participants. We have also installed a "whitelist" which protects us against any unauthorised participants getting on to the server. It works by only allowing access to those who are on the white list. You can sign up to be part of the server and be added to the white list by following this link bellow. https://www.stmichaelsbristol.org/minecraft/ Every Friday evening, we will be having a Minecraft session together from 7:30-9pm where leaders and young people will play together. This will be when the server is manned by us and we can all play together. We are are encouraging the young people to use the server during this period. However, due to the nature of the server, participants will be able to access it 24 hours a day, without leaders present. We are happy for the young people to play outside of this time and as listed above, we have put various things in place to ensure it is safe, but we would ask for your help at home in monitoring this and ensuring your child is using the server well and not after 10pm. As the weeks progress, we will be hoping to add fun challenges for the young people such as building competitions and may even have some prizes in the form of gift vouchers! If you have any questions at all, please let me know at ewen@stmichaelsbristol.org |
