Why we do what we do?

Our Vision

As St Mikes Youth (SMY) our vision is:

-
That we would be a place where Jesus is known and
young people can develop & deepen their relationship with him.
- That we would be a safe, accepting and loving place for young people.
-
That we would be a place where young people can have fun and build relationships with other young people and leaders.

This all sits within our central vision as a church community;
Living to make a difference by being a
Christian heart at the centre of our communities
.

We do this by:

- Learning & Growing Together
- Sharing Jesus Together
- Serving Together

Structure of Our Youth Work

Picture
Here at St Mikes Youth we take accountability and responsibility seriously. We have found that often when our leaders know who is ultimately responsible or who they are accountable to it makes things much easier to sit with. Our Youth Minister, Sam, is responsible and employed to lead the youth ministry which involves training and support the youth team, supporting and aiding volunteer leaders as well as supporting and walking with the young people that access our youthwork. Within the youth team we have two trainees; One training with us for a year whilst doing the New Wine Discipleship Year (NWDY) and another training with South West Youth Ministry (SWYM) for 1-4years with us. Both trainees have roles within the youth team which means they take a lead in areas and have creative control but are ultimately held accountable and responsible to Sam. This structure helps everyone to know where they stand and what their role is to help make the youth work here at St Mikes work to its best ability. It also means they can sleep well knowing they aren't solely responsible for it should things go wrong. Sam also reports regularly with the Core Leadership and PCC to make sure we are doing the best we can be, review and make changes as we go along. We also meet regularly with our Safeguarding officer to make sure we are up to date and practicing at all times within our safeguarding policy.
