Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we[a] have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we[b] boast in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we[c] also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance;4 perseverance, character; and character, hope.5 And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.
Barack Obama put it brilliantly...
It's all about Hope, that things will get better, that the darkness won't last. Jesus entered the world so that he could conquer the world but not in the way we thought He came as a baby, small, helpless, incredibly dependant. He lived a life and went through really tough times.
We're in a relationship with a God who has lived as a person and can relate to pretty much everything we go through too!
7 but laid aside his mighty power and glory, taking the disguise of a slave and becoming like men.[a] 8 And he humbled himself even further, going so far as actually to die a criminal’s death on a cross.[b] 9 Yet it was because of this that God raised him up to the heights of heaven and gave him a name which is above every other name, Philippians 2:7-9
So thats what we know the bible talks about but what other stuff helps up in suffering?
Friends Family Chatting with people we trust Having fun Playing Doing stuff we like Treat yourself every so often Don't bottle it up Get counselling (talking therapy)
So in answer to the question how can we keep our identity in Jesus through suffering is to persevere through it, get people around you who can help (and let them help), talk it out (with God too, he's big enough to handle your anger)
