Child Sponsorship Scheme
St Mikes Youth sponsors Atuhaire Sarah, an underprivileged orphan who lives in Africa. The scheme was the idea of Mettle member Naomi, who is also our Child Sponsorship Scheme Co-ordinator.
“For most of my life I've really wanted to do something for people in third world countries, and about two years ago, I felt I really wanted to do something about it! So I asked myself the question, what could I do for third world countries now?
“After a few months of praying and toying with various ideas, the idea of Child Sponsorship came to mind! And voilà! There was this amazing new smashing fresh idea! Great! But what should I do with it now!?
“I knew that I couldn't sponsor a child just out of my own pocket, as it is a big financial commitment - and yeah I was pretty skint at the time! So I presented the idea that we, as a youth group, could sponsor a child in a 3rd world country. I did a little talk to the whole youth group, and now here we are, sponsoring Sarah, making a massive difference to her life! I think that's just thrilling!”
