It Has Been A While

Filed under: RS2, Spring HarvestTrev @ 10:44 am

I see it has been over a month since I last blogged. Naughty me! *Slaps wrist*

It has certainly been a busy month. We had Spring Harvest which for many reasons was a bit different this year, mostly because I turned 21 there! I don’t think that I got a lot out of it for my own development, but we were there for the young people who I think found it a great time.

I have recently had an interview for a youth worker position in Lutterworth. It was a full on weekend. I spent most of the Sunday meeting loads of lovely people, and took a youth group session. Then on the Monday I had my formal interview. This was very hard, but I answered the questions as best and as honestly as I could. I came out of the interview feeling under qualified and relieved that it was over. I didn’t get the job (which can be a very heartbreaking thing to hear when you have worked so hard at something and done your best at it). The reasons why I didn’t get the job weren’t very satisfactory either and I am still waiting for someone to give me feedback on how I interviewed.

Anyway back to St Michael’s. Last weekend we took 9 members of RS2 on a weekend away to Hebron Hall near Cardiff. We looked at the story of Elijah over the weekend. We did this in 3 sessions which worked really well; all the young people joined in and seemed to respond positively to the bible teaching! We made time to go shopping in Cardiff, (which everyone seemed to love!) went swimming, watched a film, chatted, played on the Xbox, and listened to various kinds of music over the course of the weekend. It was great and I enjoyed it all, apart from being woken up at 5am in the morning by some boys that hadn’t been to sleep!

This weekend is the Mettle group 102 weekend away, where we will also be looking at Elijah! So it is all busy busy at the moment.

Echo … echo … echo…

Filed under: UncategorizedAnt @ 2:21 pm

I just want to echo what Trev has said below. Letting go of complete control of the Youth Service was a test, particularly for a control-freak like me! But it was a great decision, because everyone involved did so well! Congratulations everyone!

We’re off to Spring Harvest on Saturday, which is a massive highlight of our programme. I know everyone going’s really excited about it, and I’m starting to be too. Please pray that God uses it to bless each and every person going as part of the 42-strong St Mike’s Youth group. I know he will!

Personally, please pray for me at Spring Harvest. Although I love it, it can be quite a stretch and I don’t have as many leaders as usual this week, so I’m a touch apprehensive. If you’re going to Spring Harvest, give me a smile when you see me … I’ll defeinitely appreciate it!

Youth Service

Filed under: UncategorizedTrev @ 1:51 pm

Yesterday evening was our termly Youth Service. It was great!!!!!!!!!!!!

Probably for the first time Ant, and myself handed everything over to the young people. They were the ones to plan it, put what they wanted into it, decide the order, and decide the songs.

It was quite an experience. It was a scary experience knowing that I wasn’t in control, and for most of the week it felt like we had nothing planned and that Sunday was going to come and no one was going to know what they were doing.

Turned out that there was a service, and it was a really good one! There was a chance to share the peace together, an opportunity to share stuff that was on peoples hearts, a time to pray together, and plenty of worship songs.

Lucy and Sophie led the service and did an amazing job! It was great to have them up the front leading, and I would have them do it again!

Naomi spoke for us on loving others using 1John 4:7-21 and Colossians 3:12-15. What a talk it turned out to be! Challenging, inspiring, clear, passionate…my words can’t do it justice.

And everyone else that contributed (the musicians, readers, sides people)  all did an excellent job too!

In the end it was a great growing experience in trusting the young people and God to provide a truly great service. I am so proud of all the young people. A job well done!

A mashed together week!

Filed under: UncategorizedAnt @ 5:02 pm

It’s been an odd one.

‘Cos this week has been a Youth Service week and a Social Week all mashed together.

And on top of that, the 11-14s Social and 14-18s Social have been mashed together too.

We don’t know whether we’re coming or going! Wednesday brought Youth Service Practices, there are 30 of us off to see the Filton High School production of “Me and My Girl” tonight, then a Youth Service on Sunday, which looks really exciting, ‘cos it’s going to be a bit different, and Naomi is speaking! Exciting!

But if you see us looking flustered … well, now you know why!
